Asurion supports summer STEM programs

School’s back in session, but many kids around the country have spent the summer participating in STEM-focused camps and workshops. As a technology industry leader, Asurion proudly recognizes and supports efforts that drum up excitement for coding, tinkering, and problem solving.

In San Mateo, Asurion employees and their daughters, friends, and family members participated in Girls in STEM. This day-long program seeks to expose a new generation of young women to a wide variety of career options within STEM disciplines. The day included a panel discussion with five women from different Asurion departments, where young participants were encouraged to ask questions. Afterwards, the girls got their hands dirty working alongside the design team to create a prototype for an app of their choosing.

Asurion has proudly provided financial support for Fisk University’s T.H.R.U.S.T and G.U.S.T.O summer programs for young boys and girls, respectively. Operating just a few miles from Asurion’s headquarters in Nashville, Fisk’s programs provide enriching activities such as “coding through art” and rocketry to help prepare students for careers in math and science. Asurion leaders joined students on their last day of camp to watch student presentations, participate in classroom activities and, best of all, present a check that will help this program (and its participants) flourish.

These programs have wrapped up an exciting summer for Asurion and the larger tech community, as COO Barry Vandevier steps into his new role as chairman of the Tech Council board and the company lends its sponsorship to important tech education initiatives such as the We Build Tech Summit.
