Free up storage space
We’ve all been there. You’re about to take a picture when you get the dreaded message that your storage is full. Here are the best tips and tricks for freeing up storage space, so you’re ready for the next photo op.
Check your storage
See how much of your phone’s storage is being used, and how much is still available. You can also see a breakdown of all the apps on your phone organized from highest to lowest.
Tap Settings > Storage (may be under Device maintenance).
Photos & Videos
To delete photos from your phone:
Delete duplicates, blurry pictures, and screenshots that are hogging your storage space. If you want to hold onto them, backup your photos to a secure cloud and delete them from your phone.
- Open the Gallery app.
- Tap > Edit.
- Select the photos and videos that you want to delete.
- Tap Delete > Move to Trash.
Text messages can take up space, too. Delete old texts in your messaging app, focusing on conversations where you’ve exchanged a lot of pictures and media.
Delete apps and games you don’t use anymore to make space for the things you really need.
- Tap Settings > Apps. If you don’t see your apps listed, tap App Manager.
- Select the app you want to delete and tap Uninstall.
Remember, you can always re-download any app you delete from the Play Store.
Browse your music library or streaming app and say goodbye to the albums and songs you’re ready to delete.
