Navigating your smartphone's battery health can be confusing. Thankfully, ProTech experts are here to help simplify things. Whether you're using an Android® or iPhone® device, getting insight into your phone’s battery condition is key to ensure optimal performance. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you assess your smartphone's battery health.

How to check iPhone battery health

Apple makes it fairly easy for iPhone users to check their phone's battery health.

Here's a quick step-by-step:

Step 1: Open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on 'Battery'.

Step 3: Tap 'Battery Health.' Here, you'll see two important metrics: ‘Maximum Capacity’ and ‘Peak Performance Capability.’

Maximum Capacity measures the battery’s capacity relative to when it was new. As batteries age, this percentage decreases, leading to fewer hours of usage between charges.

Peak Performance Capability tells you whether your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance, or if its degraded health has led to the phone's performance being throttled to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

If your iPhone’s battery health is below 80%, it may be time to consider a battery replacement.

How to check Android battery health

Not all Android devices come equipped with a built-in feature to check battery health.

However, there are ways to get a rough idea of your battery's condition on most models.

Step 1: Go to 'Settings' and tap on 'Battery.’

Step 2: Check out the 'Battery Usage' option. This will give you a graph displaying the rate at which your battery is discharging and the apps that use the most battery.

Step 3: Consider using third-party apps. There are numerous apps available on the Google Play Store, such as AccuBattery, which provide more detailed insights into your battery's health.

Remember, if your phone isn’t holding a charge as long as it used to, or if it’s draining faster than you think it should, it might be time for a battery replacement.
