Keeping your children safe at crowded places like concerts, parades, or school events can be difficult. Instead of running after them while screaming their name which you still might have to do—you can use an AirTag® bracelet to track their exact location.

At Asurion, we take care of you and your tech, including helping you keep your kids safe and yourself calm. Here's our guide on how to use AirTag bracelets to track your child's location.

What is an AirTag?

An Apple® AirTag is a small, coin-shaped device designed to help you keep track of your belongings using the Find My feature. Its precise location tracking capabilities make it an ideal choice for keeping tabs on anything important—including your kids.

Turning AirTags into kid-friendly bracelets

While AirTags are typically used for locating keys or luggage, creative parents and accessory makers have repurposed them into wearable bracelets for kids. These bracelets securely hold an AirTag and can be comfortably worn by children, easing parents' minds by allowing them to quickly locate their child in a crowded place, during family outings, or even on the way to and from school.

Setting up an AirTag bracelet

  1. Purchase a compatible bracelet. Look for a bracelet that holds an AirTag. These are usually made of soft, durable materials, like silicone, and come in various colors and designs to appeal to kids. There are several options from Amazon™, Target®, and BestBuy®.
  2. Attach the AirTag. Open the bracelet according to the manufacturer's instructions, and securely place the AirTag inside. Make sure it's fastened properly so it doesn't fall out.
  3. Pair with your iPhone. Bring the AirTag close to your iPhone®, and follow the onscreen instructions to pair it with your device. You can assign a custom name to your AirTag, like your child's name, for easy identification.

Using the Find My app to monitor your child's location

With the AirTag bracelet set up, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone to see your child's location in real-time. The app provides a map view, showing the AirTag's current location. You can also play a sound on the AirTag to help locate your child if they're nearby but not immediately visible. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Find My app, and atp the Items tab.
  2. Scroll until you see your child's name (or whatever you named the AirTag).
  3. Tap the Item to choose from Play Sound, Find, or Share This AirTag

Tips for maximizing safety with AirTags for kids

  • Set up safe zones by the Find My app to create geofenced areas for home or school activities. You'll receive notifications when your child enters or leaves these areas.
  • Regularly check the AirTag's battery. AirTags have a battery life of over a year, but it's essential to check it periodically and replace the battery when needed.
  • Remember that while keeping your child safe is crucial, respecting their privacy is also important. Use AirTag bracelets as a layer of security and have open conversations about trust and safety as they age.
