How to connect PS5 to a TV
You just picked up a PlayStation® 5 or moved it to a new setup, and you're ready to jump into a game. But before the action starts, you need to make sure everything’s connected properly. Whether it’s your first time setting up or you’re troubleshooting a blank screen, we’ve got you covered.
At Asurion, we help people get their tech working every day—gaming consoles, smart TVs, sound systems, and more. Here’s a simple guide to connect your PS5™ to your TV.
What you need
Before you get started, make sure you have:
- A PlayStation 5 console.
- An HDMI 2.1 cable (included with the PS5).
- A TV with an available HDMI port.
- A power outlet for the PS5 power cable.
Once you’ve got everything nearby, you’re ready to go.
How to connect your PS5 to a TV
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of your PS5.
- Plug the other end into an HDMI IN port on your TV.
- Connect the power cable to the back of the PS5 and plug it into a wall outlet or power strip.
- Turn on your TV and switch to the correct HDMI input using your remote.
- Press the Power button on your PS5 (or use the controller) to start it up.
Your PS5 should now show up on the screen. If it doesn’t, double-check the HDMI connection and make sure your TV is set to the right input.
Tips for the best picture and sound
- For 4K gaming, use the HDMI port on your TV labeled “HDMI 2.1” or “4K 120Hz” if available.
- If you’re using a soundbar, connect the PS5 to the soundbar’s HDMI input, then run a second HDMI from the soundbar to your TV.
- Adjust picture settings on your TV for Game Mode to reduce lag.
If you're seeing a blank screen or getting error messages, your TV may not support the resolution your PS5 is trying to use. Try restarting the PS5 in Safe Mode and choosing a lower resolution.
