Honeywell offers several thermostats that connect to Wi-Fi. If you have one in your home, you can use the Wi-Fi connection to optimize your thermostat settings for energy savings.

Considering a switch to a smart thermostat? Asurion Experts can help. Whether you're looking for what to know before switching to a smart thermostat, which smart thermostat is the best fit for your home, or need help to troubleshoot common smart thermostat problems, we're here to support you. Here's how to connect a Honeywell thermostat to Wi-Fi in just a few steps.

Check your Honeywell model

Determine which Honeywell thermostat model you have. The model number is on the product ID card. If you no longer have the product ID card, remove the device from the wall and locate the model number on the back. Some Honeywell thermostats also list the model number in the battery compartment area.

Once you have the model number, you can download the associated Honeywell app from the Apple® App Store® or Google Play™ store. Here's a reference chart of common Honeywell thermostats and the apps they use.

Troubleshoot connection problems

If the Honeywell thermostat doesn't connect to Wi-Fi, or you can't view its settings through the app, do the following.

  • Verify you're using a router with a 2.4GHz frequency. Honeywell thermostats only work with a 2.4GHz frequency. If your router uses another frequency, review the user guide to see if you can adjust it.
  • Restart the thermostat and router: Turn off your router and thermostat. Turn both devices back on and repeat the Wi-Fi setup steps.
  • Enable location permissions on your smartphone: Adjust your smartphone's settings to share your location with the Resideo - Smart Home or Total Connect Comfort app.
  • Move the router closer to your thermostat: Bring the router closer to your thermostat during the setup process. Once it completes, you can return it to its normal spot.

FAQ

Can I change the Wi-Fi network without resetting the thermostat?

Yes. Tap Menu > Wi-Fi or Menu > Wi-Fi Setup (depending on the model of your thermostat). Then, select the name of the new network. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the connection.

Will the thermostat reconnect automatically after a power outage?

If the power goes out, you don't need to change the thermostat's Wi-Fi connection. It will automatically reconnect once the network comes back online.

How do I update the thermostat's firmware once it's connected?

Honeywell automatically pushes firmware updates to its thermostats with a Wi-Fi connection, so you shouldn't need to manually update the device.
