How to set up Xbox Series X with a webcam

What you need to use a webcam on Xbox

The Xbox Series X doesn’t support every webcam out there, but here’s what to look for:

  • A USB webcam that supports UVC (USB Video Class).
  • 720p or 1080p resolution for the best quality.
  • A working USB 3.0 port on your console.

Logitech®, Razer™, and Microsoft® webcams are commonly supported.

How to connect a webcam to Xbox Series X

Setting up is easy if you’re using a compatible webcam.

  1. Plug your webcam into one of the USB ports on the front or back of your Xbox.
  2. Your console will automatically detect it—there’s no need to install anything.
  3. Launch a supported app like Twitch, Skype, or Microsoft Teams.
  4. The app will use your webcam as the default video input.

Note: Xbox does not have a native camera app or dashboard setting to preview your webcam. It only activates when using supported apps.

How to stream on Twitch using a webcam

If you’re planning to stream gameplay and want to appear on camera, here’s how to do it:

  1. Download and open the Twitch app on your Xbox.
  2. Sign in and go to Broadcast.
  3. Your webcam feed will appear in the preview screen.
  4. Choose Enable camera if it doesn’t show up automatically.

Troubleshooting webcam issues

If your webcam doesn’t show up:

  • Unplug and reinsert it into a different USB port.
  • Make sure the camera supports UVC—many older or app-specific webcams won’t work.

  • Test the webcam on a PC to confirm it still works.
