Lenovo mouse not working? Here's how to reset

Your Lenovo® laptop mouse or touchpad isn't working the way it should—maybe it’s lagging, not responding, or disconnecting altogether. Whether you're using a wireless mouse or your built-in touchpad, there are a few easy ways to reset things and get back to normal.

At Asurion, we're the tech experts you can trust—each year, more than 30 million people rely on us to keep their tech running. If you're wondering how to reset the mouse on your Lenovo laptop, here's a quick guide to get you started.

Restart your laptop

Before jumping into more advanced steps, restart your laptop. This can clear out temporary software issues that might be affecting your mouse or touchpad.

Reset your wireless mouse

If you’re using a wireless USB or Bluetooth® mouse:

  • Turn the mouse off, then back on again.
  • Remove and reinsert the USB receiver.
  • If it's Bluetooth, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices, remove the mouse, and re-pair it.
  • Replace the batteries or recharge the mouse, just in case.

Reset your Lenovo touchpad

If your built-in touchpad isn’t working:

  1. Press Fn + F6 or Fn + F8, depending on your Lenovo model, to toggle the touchpad on and off.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, and make sure it's turned on.
  3. Restart the device if changes don’t take effect.

Update or reinstall drivers

Outdated drivers can cause your mouse to stop working.

  1. Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click your device and choose Update driver or Uninstall device, then restart your laptop.

If your mouse still won’t work or you’re seeing physical damage, it could be time to replace it. Learn what’s covered with mouse warranty protection from Asurion Home+®.
