Turn on the Kindle
Press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. When the welcome screen appears, select a language to continue.
Connect the Kindle to Wi-Fi
A Wi-Fi connection is required to finish setup and download books.
- Open Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Choose a network and enter the password.
Once connected, the Kindle moves to the next step automatically.

Register the Kindle with an Amazon account
Registering links the Kindle to an Amazon account so books and reading progress can sync.
- Enter the Amazon account email and password.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete registration.
Purchased Kindle books will appear in the library after setup.
Install software updates
