How to transfer data from Xbox One to Xbox Series X
Just upgraded to the Xbox Series X™? Nice move. Now you’re probably wondering how to bring over all your games, saves, and settings from your Xbox One®. The good news: Microsoft® makes it pretty simple.
At Asurion, we help gamers get their consoles set up quickly—without losing what matters. Whether you're a casual player or all-in on 100% game completion, here’s how to transfer your data and get back to gaming on your new console.
Use network transfer to move games and apps
If both consoles are connected to the same Wi-Fi—or even better, a wired Ethernet—you can transfer data directly.
- On your Xbox One, press the Xbox button.
- Go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Backup & transfer.
- Turn on Allow network transfer.
- On your Xbox Series X, follow the same path to find your old console.
- Choose the content you want to move and start the transfer.
Cloud saves carry over automatically
If your Xbox One was connected to the internet, your game saves are already in the cloud.
- Sign in to your Xbox Series X using the same Microsoft account.
- Open any game you played on your Xbox One—your save data should load automatically.
Reinstall your games from your digital library
Don’t feel like transferring everything? You can re-download the games you want.
- Press the Xbox button on your Series X.
- Go to My games & apps > Full library > All owned games.
- Choose the games you want and hit Install.
Your cloud saves will show up automatically when you launch each game.
Use an external hard drive
Prefer to go the manual route? Here’s how to use a USB drive:
- Connect your hard drive to your Xbox One.
- Go to Settings > System > Storage and move the games you want to transfer.
- Unplug the drive and plug it into your Xbox Series X.
- Launch games directly from the drive or copy them to your internal storage.
FAQ
Can I transfer everything from my Xbox One to Xbox Series X?
Yes—your games, apps, saves, and settings can all be transferred using a network transfer, external storage, or cloud sync.
How do I transfer Xbox data using Wi-Fi?
Use the Network Transfer feature in Settings on both consoles while they’re on the same Wi-Fi. It’s fast and doesn’t require an external device.
Will I lose progress if I uninstall a game?
Nope. If your save data is stored in the cloud, it will reappear the next time you install and launch the game.
Do I need Xbox Live to transfer saved games?
No. Cloud saves work with any Microsoft account as long as your old console was connected to the internet.
