Asurion Earns Top Marks on Nation’s Premier LGBTQ Workplace Equality Index

Asurion, the global leader in helping people unlock the potential of technology, announced today that it received a perfect score of 100 on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.  Asurion is one of just two Nashville-based companies and one of just four Tennessee-based companies to earn a perfect score on the CEI this year.  It joins the ranks of over 560 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks.

Asurion is committed to fostering a culture where all people and perspectives are valued, and our employees can bring their whole selves to work. We seek out the best teammates and strive to bring out their full potential through empowerment, diversity and everyday leadership that is driven by humility, open feedback, active coaching and courage."

The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including the non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partnership benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.

“Asurion is committed to fostering a culture where all people and perspectives are valued, and our employees can bring their whole selves to work. We seek out the best teammates and strive to bring out their full potential through empowerment, diversity and everyday leadership that is driven by humility, open feedback, active coaching and courage,” said Nikki Smith Bartley, Asurion vice president and special counsel for diversity and inclusion. “We are honored that the Human Rights Campaign recognizes our commitment with a perfect score on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index, and named Asurion among the best places to work for the LGBTQ community.”

Commitment to LGBTQ Inclusion

Asurion has created mindful policies and activities in our workplace to reinforce our commitment to LGBTQ inclusion and foster a culture that enables employees to bring their full selves work. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Adding gender expression, gender identity and sexual orientation in our Equal Opportunity Employment Commission statement;
  • Releasing a gender transition guide for our leaders, human resources team and employees to ensure a successful transition at work;
  • An active Pride employee resource group, whose mission is to foster an inclusive workplace while helping recruit, develop and retain top LGBTQ talent at Asurion;
  • Creating and hosting education sessions for employees, which teach inclusive language and help employees navigate scenarios that could pop up at work;
  • Updating the donation policy of our non-profit arm, Compassion Forward, against donating our philanthropic dollars to anti-LGBTQ organizations; and
  • Allowing employees to use their preferred name at work.

“The top-scoring companies on this year’s CEI are not only establishing policies that affirm and include employees here in the United States, they are applying these policies to their global operations and impacting millions of people beyond our shores,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Many of these companies have also become vocal advocates for equality in the public square, including the dozens that have signed on to amicus briefs in vital Supreme Court cases and the more than 170 that have joined HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act. Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do -- it’s also good for business.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
