Motion detection depends on whether the system is armed, where the camera is aimed, how someone moves through the frame, the active zones, and the camera’s connection.

Make sure the Blink system is armed

Blink cameras only record motion when the system is armed and motion detection is enabled for that camera.

1. Open the Blink app.
2. Find the system containing the camera.
3. Tap Armed.
4. Open the camera’s settings.
5. Confirm Motion Detection is turned on.
6. Walk through the camera’s view to test it.

If the system is scheduled to arm and disarm automatically, review the schedule too. A perfectly configured camera cannot record motion while the system is taking scheduled time off.

Check whether the camera is online

Open the camera in the Blink app and confirm it is connected.

If it shows offline:

1. Check the batteries or power cable.
2. Restart the camera.
3. Restart the router.
4. Restart the Sync Module, if the system uses one.
5. Check the camera-to-Wi-Fi and camera-to-Sync Module signals.

Increase motion sensitivity gradually

Sensitivity that is too low may miss people. Sensitivity that is too high may capture shadows, branches, vehicles, or temperature changes.

1. Tap More on the camera thumbnail.
2. Tap Device Settings.
3. Tap Motion Settings.
4. Increase Motion Sensitivity slightly.
5. Save the change.
6. Test the same walking path again.

Adjust in small steps. Jumping straight to maximum sensitivity may replace missed events with a nonstop alert festival.

Review Activity Zones

Activity Zones tell the camera which areas to ignore. Open Motion Settings and review the zone grid. Make sure the walkway, driveway, stairs, or doorway you care about is active. Temporarily enable all zones and test motion again. If detection returns, one of the excluded zones was blocking the useful area.

Afterward, exclude only areas that create unwanted motion, such as:

• Busy roads.
• Tree branches.
• Neighboring walkways.
• Reflective windows.
• Moving flags.
• Areas outside the property.

Reposition the camera

Many Blink cameras detect motion most effectively when a person moves across the field of view rather than directly toward the lens. Try:

• Angling the camera slightly across the walkway.
• Mounting it where visitors move from one side of the frame to the other.
• Keeping the important area within roughly 7–19 feet when practical.
• Avoiding placement behind glass.
• Removing branches or decorations blocking the view.
• Keeping the camera within its recommended mounting range.

A camera aimed straight down a long walkway may see less useful movement than one angled across it.

Check the retrigger time

After recording motion, the camera may wait before detecting the next event. That wait is called retrigger time.

If the first event records but the next one does not:

1. Open Motion Settings.
2. Find Retrigger Time.
3. Shorten the interval.
4. Save the setting.
5. Test two events close together.

A shorter retrigger time captures activity more frequently but may also increase clips and battery use.

Understand Early Notification

Early Notification changes when the alert is sent—it does not make the sensor more sensitive.

When enabled, Blink may send an alert as soon as motion is detected. When disabled, the notification may wait until the clip finishes recording.

If the camera records the event but the alert seems late, review Early Notification. If the event is missing completely, focus on arming, sensitivity, zones, placement, and connectivity instead.

Clean the camera and remove obstructions

Wipe the lens with a clean microfiber cloth and clear spiderwebs or debris from the camera housing.

A dirty lens primarily affects video quality, but webs, leaves, decorations, or objects directly in front of the camera can create false motion or block the useful view.

Restart the camera and Sync Module

For a battery-powered camera:

1. Remove the batteries.
2. Wait about 10 seconds.
3. Reinstall them.
4. Restart the Sync Module by unplugging it briefly.
5. Wait for the system to reconnect.
6. Arm the system and test motion.

If several cameras have stopped detecting motion, the Sync Module, network, schedule, or system arming setting deserves attention.

Reset only after the easier fixes
