When a child grabs their Fire™ tablet, they're usually ready to get straight to their books, games, or videos. An Amazon Kids profile that refuses to load wasn't part of the plan.

At Asurion, we know tech problems have a way of showing up at the least convenient moment. Before starting over with the profile—or the entire tablet—here's what we'd try to get everyone back to what they were doing.

See whether the adult profile works

Switch to the adult profile and spend a minute using the tablet normally. Open an app, browse a webpage, or play a video.

If everything works there, that's useful information: the Fire™ tablet itself is running, so we'd leave the bigger device fixes alone and focus on Amazon Kids. If the adult profile freezes or won't load either, you're dealing with a broader tablet problem rather than one stubborn profile.

Restart before changing the profile

When the adult side works but Amazon Kids won't get past the loading screen, restart the tablet before deleting anything.

Hold the power button until the shutdown options appear, then choose Restart. If the tablet isn't responding, hold the power button for about 40 seconds to force it to shut down, then turn it back on.

Once it's ready, try the Kids profile again. A temporary Fire OS glitch can make a profile hang without anything actually being wrong with the account.

Check whether the tablet is really online

A Kids profile may open but struggle to load books, games, videos, or other synced content when the connection is shaky. Try streaming something from the adult profile or opening a webpage rather than trusting the Wi-Fi icon alone.

If that struggles too, restart the router and reconnect the tablet. When other devices work normally but the Fire tablet doesn't, forget the Wi-Fi network and connect to it again.

Make sure Fire OS is current

If the profile keeps getting stuck after a restart, we'd check for updates before making changes to the child's account.

From the adult profile, open Settings > Device Options > System Updates and install anything available. Keep the tablet plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi while it finishes, then try Amazon Kids again.

When the profile loads but the content doesn't

This is a slightly different problem. If your child can enter the profile but certain books, apps, or videos are missing, don't delete the profile just yet.

Open the Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard or the parental controls available from the adult profile and check what's been shared with that child. Also make sure you're signed in to the Amazon account that manages the profile.

If an Amazon Kids+ subscription recently expired or changed, some subscription content may no longer be available even though the profile itself still works.

Remove and add the profile only if you need to

By this point, we'd be more comfortable rebuilding the profile because we've already ruled out the easier stuff.

Before removing anything, make sure you know the Amazon account information tied to the tablet and understand which locally stored content may need to be downloaded again. Then use the adult profile's Amazon Kids or profile settings to remove the problem child profile and add it again.

The exact menu names can vary by Fire OS version, so follow the on-screen profile-management options rather than reaching for a factory reset.
