What to do when Fire TV apps keep crashing

You settle in to watch something, open your favorite app... and it immediately crashes. Sometimes it freezes on the loading screen. Sometimes it opens, then closes without warning. Either way, your plans for a binge-watching session are on hold.

Is it one app or every app?

Before changing anything, open a different streaming app.

If only one app keeps crashing, focus your troubleshooting there. If multiple apps are freezing or closing, the problem is more likely tied to Fire TV itself—storage, software, or the network.

Force stop the app and clear its cache

Most app crashes are temporary, and this is where we'd start. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select the problem app, then choose Force Stop.

If it crashes again, return to the same menu and select Clear Cache. Restart your Fire TV and test the app again. Clearing the cache removes temporary files but won't normally sign you out or delete your settings.

Restart Fire TV

If the app is still crashing, restart the device. Open Settings > My Fire TV (or Device & Software) > Restart, or simply unplug the Fire TV for about a minute before plugging it back in.

Check available storage

Fire TV apps need working space to download updates and temporary streaming files. Open Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage and see how much space is available.

If storage is low:

• Delete apps you no longer use.
• Clear cache for large apps.
• Leave some free space for updates and streaming data.

Update Fire TV and the app

Outdated software is another common cause of crashes. Install any available Fire TV software updates, then check whether the problem app has an update in the Amazon Appstore.

If the crashes started immediately after an app update, test another streaming service. The developer may simply need to release a follow-up fix.

Check your Wi-Fi

Streaming apps depend on a stable connection. If Wi-Fi keeps dropping, apps may freeze, crash, or return unexpected errors.

Before blaming the app:

• Restart the router.
• Test another streaming app.
• Try the same service on another device.

Clear app data or reinstall the app

Factory reset only if everything is crashing
