💡 Need to know

  • Find the model number first. It’s usually under the battery cover.
  • Try direct code entry before auto-search. It’s faster if you have the right code.
  • Some codes only partially work. If volume works but power doesn’t, try another code.

After hours spent trying to locate your TV's original remote control, you have to face facts: It's gone. No amount of searching the living room, bedroom, or kitchen area will bring it back. Fortunately, you have a handy replacement—a universal remote control. This bad boy has the same functions and features as your original remote. That is, if you can get it to work.

Asurion Experts are plugged into tech. Whether you're looking for a Hisense TV remote replacement or guidance to set up your Apple HomePod, count on us for straight answers. Here's how to set up a universal remote quickly and easily.

How to find your universal remote codes

Start by figuring out which universal remote you have. Most devices display the manufacturer's name on the front of the remote. If you open up the battery cover, you'll find the model number on the sticker insert. Write down these details.

If you have the user manual for the remote, it includes specific instructions to get started. The manual may also include any codes you need to program the device with your TV.

Below is a table of popular universal remote codes for several remote control and TV manufacturers. It's not all-inclusive, but you may find the right combination for your devices.
