Why your Libby book isn’t showing up on Kindle

You borrow the book in Libby, send it to Kindle, pick up your e-reader ready to start—and the book is nowhere on the screen. Before repeating the process three more times, it helps to know what’s happening behind the scenes.
Libby and Kindle don't connect directly. For supported U.S. library books, Libby sends you to Amazon to complete the loan, and Amazon delivers the title to your Kindle library. Here’s where we’d look when that handoff breaks down.
Make sure the book actually supports Kindle
If you can send some Libby books to Kindle but not this one, we'd leave your Kindle settings alone. Not every library ebook is available in Kindle format.
Open the loan in Libby and look for Read With Kindle. If Kindle isn't offered as a reading option, that title may need to be read in Libby instead.
Availability can also depend on the library and publisher, so another book working perfectly doesn't guarantee this one will have the same options.
Make sure you finished the Amazon step
This is an easy place to stop too soon. After choosing Read With Kindle in Libby, you'll be sent to Amazon. Sign in and complete the option to get the library book. Until that Amazon step is finished, there's nothing for the Kindle itself to download.
Once Amazon confirms the loan, check your Kindle library rather than borrowing the book again in Libby.
Check which Amazon account got the book
If Amazon says the book was delivered but your Kindle has never heard of it, compare accounts.
The Amazon account used during the Libby handoff should be the same one registered to the Kindle. This becomes especially easy to mix up when a household has multiple Amazon accounts or the browser automatically signs into an account you don't normally use for Kindle.
Sync your Kindle before borrowing the book again
Once you've confirmed the right Amazon account has the loan, connect the Kindle to Wi-Fi and run a manual sync. Then open Library, switch to All, and search for the title.
That All filter matters. If you're viewing only Downloaded books, a newly delivered library title can be in your Kindle library without appearing in the view you're looking at.
If the title appears, tap it to download it.
If the book is in your Amazon library but won't download
At this point, Libby has done its job. We'd stop troubleshooting the library app and focus on the Kindle.
Make sure the Kindle is online and try downloading another book. If other titles download normally, retry the library book after restarting the Kindle. If nothing downloads, you're dealing with a broader Kindle connection or download problem.
Don't borrow another copy just yet
When a Libby loan is already active, repeatedly borrowing, returning, and sending it again can make a simple account or sync problem harder to follow.
Check the loan in Libby, confirm it reached the correct Amazon account, and sync the Kindle before starting over. Those three checks tell you much more than repeating the same handoff and hoping attempt number four feels different.
Remember that library loans expire
A Libby book delivered to Kindle is still a library loan. When the lending period ends, you lose access to the borrowed copy even though the title may still appear in your Kindle history.
If a book that worked previously suddenly won't open, check the loan status in Libby before troubleshooting Wi-Fi or resetting anything. You may simply need to borrow it again if it's available.
