At Asurion, many of us are gamers too, so we know a few extra milliseconds can be the difference between smooth controls and wanting to blame the controller. Here’s how we’d track down where that delay is coming from and get Luna feeling more responsive.

Try Cloud Direct before blaming the controller

If your Luna controller is connected over Bluetooth, switch it to Cloud Direct in the Luna Controller app and play the same game again.

Cloud Direct sends controller input to Amazon’s game servers over Wi-Fi instead of routing it through the device you’re playing on first. Amazon designed it specifically to reduce latency, so if the controls immediately feel tighter, you’ve learned something useful: the controller itself was probably fine. Bluetooth was simply taking the longer route.

Internet speed only tells part of the story

Luna needs a sustained connection of at least 10 Mbps for 1080p streaming, but a fast speed-test result doesn't guarantee a lag-free game. Cloud gaming also cares about how quickly and consistently information travels back and forth.

Think about everything else happening on the network while you play. A game downloading upstairs, someone streaming 4K video, a cloud backup running in the background, or a shaky Wi-Fi signal can all add delay even when you're paying for plenty of bandwidth.

Give Luna a cleaner connection and see what changes

For one gaming session, strip away as many network variables as you reasonably can. Use Ethernet if the device supports it; otherwise, connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi and move closer to the router. Pause big downloads, backups, and other heavy streaming, and temporarily turn off any VPN or proxy.

Then play the same game again.

If the lag disappears, don't rush out to buy a new router. Start returning the network to normal and watch for when the delay comes back. That can tell you whether Wi-Fi signal, network traffic, or something else sharing the connection is actually causing the slowdown.

Don't forget about the TV

The network can be fast and the controller can respond perfectly while the television quietly adds delay of its own.

If you're playing Luna through Fire TV, turn on your television's Game Mode. TVs normally do extra picture processing to make movies and shows look better, but all that processing takes time. Game Mode cuts back on some of it so the picture can respond to controller input faster.

Computer players have a slightly different checklist. Keep the browser and operating system current, and if you're using Chrome, make sure hardware acceleration is enabled.

Still lagging? Follow it to another game or screen

At this point, another Luna game or device can tell you more than another round of settings changes.

• Every Luna game lags on every device: Focus on the network or broader cloud-gaming connection.
• Luna feels fine on a laptop but lags on the TV: Check the TV connection and Game Mode.
• Keyboard or mouse feels responsive but the Luna controller doesn't: Go back to the controller connection.
• Only one game feels delayed: Leave the rest of the setup alone and focus on that title.

The goal isn't to work through an endless list of fixes. It's to see where the lag follows you. Once you know that, you know which part of the setup actually deserves your attention.
