Luna games won’t launch? Here’s what to try

⚡ Fast fix

  • Try another game—One title failing points somewhere different than the whole Luna library.
  • Check the device—Luna needs a supported app or browser and current software.
  • Test the connection—1080p Luna streaming needs a sustained 10 Mbps.
  • Still stuck at launch?

You pick a game in Amazon Luna®, hit Play, and somehow you're right back where you started. Before changing browser settings or rebooting everything in sight, try another game. That one quick test can tell you whether Luna itself is having trouble or one title simply isn't cooperating.

Cloud gaming has a few more moving pieces than launching something installed directly on a console. Asurion Experts know which ones are actually worth checking, so here's how we'd narrow down what's keeping the game from starting.

See if another Luna game will launch

Pick a second game from your Luna library and try it. If that one launches normally, don't touch the router or device settings yet—the original title may have an availability, account-access, or game-specific issue.

Several games refusing to launch tells a different story. That's when we'd start looking beyond the individual title and test the device Luna is running on.

Move to another screen

Sign in to Luna with the same Amazon account on another supported device and try launching a game there. A computer, compatible Fire TV, tablet, phone, or supported smart TV works for this test.

If the game launches on the second device, you've already ruled out quite a bit. Luna and the Amazon account can clearly start a game, so bring the troubleshooting back to the original device.

For someone playing through a web browser, that means making sure the browser and operating system are current before digging much deeper. Amazon supports specific versions of Chrome, Edge, and Safari depending on the device, while supported Fire TV, Fire tablet, Samsung, and LG devices can use Luna through their available apps.

Our guide to how cloud gaming works explains why the device in front of you still matters even when the game itself is running somewhere else.

Playing in a browser? Check the settings Luna needs

There's no reason to start clearing every browser setting. Focus on the handful that can actually affect Luna:

  • Update the browser and operating system.
  • Make sure JavaScript is enabled.
  • Set browser zoom to 100%.
  • Try full-screen mode.
  • In Chrome, make sure hardware acceleration is turned on.

Then close and reopen the browser before trying Luna again. If games now launch normally, leave the rest of the settings alone.

Give the connection a closer look

A game that never gets past launch may also be struggling to establish a stable stream. Luna requires a sustained internet speed of at least 10 Mbps for 1080p streaming, and Amazon recommends Ethernet when possible or 5 GHz Wi-Fi for wireless play.

Rather than changing everything on the network, start with what can improve the connection quickly:

  1. Move closer to the router or connect with Ethernet.
  2. Pause large downloads, updates, and cloud backups.
  3. Turn off any VPN or proxy.
  4. Restart the router if other online services are struggling too.
  5. Let the network reconnect, then try Luna again.

Testing on another connection can be especially useful here. If Luna suddenly works on a different network, the original connection deserves more attention. If several devices fail on the same Wi-Fi, that's another strong clue.

Check whether your Amazon account still has access

When Luna opens normally and other games work, we'd circle back to the title itself before troubleshooting anything else.

Make sure you're signed into the Amazon account that has access to the game, especially if multiple people use Luna on the same device. Game availability can change, and titles aren't necessarily included through every Luna or Prime benefit, so check the game's current Luna listing too.

If everything looks right, sign out of Luna and back in. That's a much smaller move than reinstalling apps or resetting devices, and it can refresh an account session that's gotten stuck.

Follow the problem before resetting anything

By now, the pattern should tell you where to focus:

  • One game won't launch: Check that title and your access to it.
  • Games fail on one device: Focus on that device, app, or browser.
  • Several devices struggle on the same network: Look at the internet connection.
  • Nothing launches anywhere: Check Luna's service status before changing more settings.

That's also why we wouldn't factory reset a Fire TV, computer, or other device because one Luna game refuses to start. The goal isn't to throw every possible fix at the problem—it's to follow the clues until you find the part that's actually misbehaving.

FAQ

Why won’t Amazon Luna games load?

If several games won’t launch, check the device or browser, internet connection, Amazon account, and whether Luna is supported on that setup.

How fast does internet need to be for Luna?

Amazon requires at least a sustained 10 Mbps connection for 1080p game streaming.

Why does one Luna game fail while others work?

That points more toward the individual game’s availability or account access than the home network.

What browser settings does Luna need?

Amazon recommends JavaScript on, 100% browser zoom, full-screen mode, and hardware acceleration in Chrome.

Should I factory reset Fire TV because a Luna game won’t launch?

Probably not. Try another game and another supported device first so you know whether the problem actually follows Fire TV.
