⚡ Fast fix

  • Update your Oura Ring firmware and Oura App to the latest versions.
  • Toggle Airplane Mode on and off on your Oura Ring.
  • Check charging alignment to make sure the inner sensors align with the charger.
  • Reduce excess syncing by keeping the Oura App on your phone closed.
  • Temporarily disable Blood Oxygen Sensing in the Oura App settings.

Oura Rings® are powerful health tools that fit right around your finger. Like any other battery-powered device, though, they can run into frustrating battery issues. The rings are designed to last several days on a single charge, so when they don’t, it can be disruptive.

There are steps you can take to stop your Oura Ring from dying fast, and Asurion is here to walk you through them. Every day, our experts help tons of customers like you to troubleshoot and get more out of their devices.

Discover common causes of Oura Ring battery problems, like background syncing, SpO2 monitoring, firmware bugs, charging issues, and battery aging—plus what to do about them.

Common reasons your Oura Ring battery is draining quickly

If you’re having issues with your Oura Ring battery life, it’s probably due to one of these common causes:

  • Constant Bluetooth syncing: Each time you sync data from your ring to the app, that eats up a little bit of your ring’s battery. A few times probably won’t be noticeable, but it adds up, so avoid syncing many times throughout the day.
  • Frequent app checks: When you open the Oura App with Bluetooth on while wearing your ring, it will automatically sync. So, avoid opening the app too often.
  • SpO2 monitoring: Oxygen saturation monitoring also uses more battery life than other functions, so try not to use it all the time.
  • Outdated firmware: Older firmware on your ring or Oura App may eat up more battery life, so check for updates and install them if available.
  • Temperature exposure: Exposing your ring to overly high or low temperatures may also strain the battery, so take it off before entering these environments.
  • Aging batteries: As your ring and its battery get older, the battery will naturally degrade and stop holding a charge as well.

Adjust settings that may drain your battery faster

Switching some settings in your Oura App can improve battery life in a snap. Try these tips:

  • Switch off background syncing.
  • Use the Blood Oxygen Sensing feature sparingly.
  • Keep Bluetooth off except while syncing.
  • Consider using Airplane Mode to disable Bluetooth while still collecting and storing your health data.

Airplane Mode is especially useful for conserving power while traveling or during overnight use, when you don’t need to sync and see your data. Both Oura Ring Gen 3 and 4 have Airplane Mode, so give it a try.

Improve long-term battery health

Taking care of your ring and its battery will ensure it works properly for as long as possible.

Avoid exposing your ring to extreme heat, for example, since these high temperatures can damage the battery over time. Only use a certified Oura ring charger. Keep your firmware up to date, too.

Don’t let your battery drain to 0% every time before charging. These deep discharges may hurt the long-term health of the battery. Instead, try charging your ring when it gets around 30% battery.

When your Oura Ring battery problem may be hardware-related

If your Oura Ring has charging issues and struggles to hold a charge for a full day, that’s a sign the battery or other hardware has failed. Other signs include overheating while charging or displaying inaccurate battery readings.

Some users report seeing these problems within two to three years of purchasing their Oura Rings, but your experience may differ based on your usage patterns.

FAQ

Why does my Oura Ring lose charge overnight?

Because it’s still working while you sleep. Tracking things like SpO2 and syncing data can drain battery faster than you’d expect.

Can you replace the battery in an Oura Ring?

Nope. The ring is sealed, so the battery isn’t designed to be replaced manually.

How long should an Oura Ring battery last?

Usually around 5–8 days per charge. Over time, though, all batteries get a little worse with age and heavy use.
