When to reset your Beats earbuds
There's nothing more frustrating than popping in your Beats earbuds, only to hear nothing. A quick reset can fix a few common problems, including:
- Your connection drops mid-tune: Are you wondering why your Beats keep disconnecting in the middle of your workout? Or maybe only one earbud is working, so you're only getting half the sound. If so, it's a good time to try a reset.
- Pairing failures: If you're not having any luck pairing Bluetooth headphones with a new device, try a reset.
- Charging problems: You left your Beats earbuds in the charging case for hours, but they're still dead. A quick reset could get them charging again.
- Unresponsive controls: You should be able to skip to the next track and turn up the volume with a quick press on your earbuds. If nothing happens, reset them.

Steps to reset your Beats earbuds
When it comes to resetting your Beats headphones, every model has a slightly different process. Here's how to do a reset for a few popular models.
Beats Studio Buds and Studio Buds+
Can't get your Studio Buds to work? Follow these steps to reset them:
- Put both earbuds in the case and leave the lid open.
- Press the system button in between the earbuds for around 15 seconds. The charging case LED indicator should flash red and white.
- Release the button.
Beats Fit Pro and Powerbeats Pro
Follow the same steps for these models that you would for the Studio Buds version. The only difference is that the system button is near the front or back of the inside of the case instead of in between the earbuds.
Beats Solo Buds
Resetting your Solo Buds is a little quicker:
- Put both earbuds in the case and leave it open.
- Press and hold the button above the Beats logo on both earbuds for approximately 10 seconds.
Pair your Beats earbuds again after resetting
Following the steps in this guide will do a factory reset of your earbuds (also known as a hard reset). That means they forget how to connect to all the devices they've previously been paired with. That comes in handy if you want to reset Beats from a previous owner.
Start by checking the Bluetooth settings to make sure your earbuds have completely disconnected from previous devices.
If you have an iPhone® or iPad®, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the name of your Beats device.
- Tap Forget Device.
Here's how to unpair an AndroidTM device
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Connections > Bluetooth.
- Tap the Settings button next to your Beats.
- Tap Unpair.
After your earbuds forget the Bluetooth device, it's time to re-pair. Here's how to connect Beats by Dre with an Apple device:
- Open Settings and tap Bluetooth.
- Open the case with your earbuds and hold it next to your iPhone or iPad.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
Here's how to pair Beats headphones with Android devices:
- In the Settings app, tap Bluetooth and make sure it's toggled on.
- Put the earbuds in their case.
- Open the case lid to activate the Bluetooth pairing mode. For some models, you may need to press and hold the power button on the right control module.
- Hold the case next to your device.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
You may also need to reconnect your earbuds with the Beats app, which is a native tool for firmware updates and settings. Follow these steps:
- Tap Help Connect in the app.
- Tap the name of your Beats.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to re-pair the device and app.

FAQ
Why is only one Beats earbud working?
An unstable charging connection and a buggy Bluetooth connection are two reasons why one earbud might not work. Resetting and recharging both earbuds together could fix the issue.
Can I track my stolen Beats earbuds if they get reset?
No, you usually can't track your Beats earbuds if the person who took them does a factory reset.
How do I know if my Beats are in pairing mode?
Typically, the LED indicator light on your Beats will flash white or another color when they're ready to pair. If you don't see the light, make sure your Bluetooth is turned on and move the earbuds closer to your device.
