⚡ Fast fix

  • Quick reset: Unplug your HomePod, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Manual reset: Press and hold the top until the light turns red.
  • Use the app: Reset directly from the Home app if your device is connected.
  • Last resort: Restore using a computer if other methods fail.

A factory reset brings your Apple HomePod mini® or HomePod® back to the same status it was right out of the box. It’s like the software and firmware are brand-new again.

If you’re having connectivity issues, sending the HomePod in for service, or selling it, a reset is the perfect solution. You may lose the data you have saved on the HomePod, though, so keep that in mind.

Asurion’s tech experts are here to walk you through the reset process. We’ve helped millions of customers with their Apple® devices. Learn how to reset a HomePod mini or HomePod in this guide.

Use the Home app to reset your device

One way to reset your HomePod mini is to use the Home app on a device that’s signed into the same Apple Account tied to your HomePod. If you’re using an iPad as a smart home hub, for example, you could use the Home app on the iPad to complete the HomePod reset:

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone®, iPad®, or Mac®.
  2. Select HomePod > Settings.
  3. Choose Reset HomePod.
  4. Select Remove Accessory.

You should see a spinning white light appear on the top of your HomePod. Once the spinning white light goes away, the reset is complete.
