Majority of Dads say Father’s Day is Time for a Tech Gadget Upgrade

Asurion survey shows 63 percent of dads want to replace or upgrade a gadget

Want to delight dad this Father’s Day? Upgrade his tech gadgets. A recent survey conducted by Asurion, the global leader in technology protection and support services, shows that 45 percent of dads are hoping for a tech device this Father’s Day, and 63 percent want it to be an upgrade of something they already own. According to dad, the key to successful Father’s Day tech gift giving is selecting an item that is fun to use (50 percent said) or that makes his life easier (30 percent said).

Looking for ideas on the best gadgets to give dad? Here is a list of the best tech gifts dads have received in the past, as told by dads themselves in Asurion’s recent survey:

  • Mobile phone (21 percent)
  • Tablet/eReader (19 percent)
  • Home Theater/Sound (19 percent)
  • Computer/Laptop (15 percent)

“Our survey data shows a continuing trend of using technology to not only enhance the personal entertainment experience, but also to make life more convenient,” said Bettie Colombo, an Asurion spokesperson. “As our lives continue to become more integrated with technology, it is important to remember while shopping for gifts, to plan to protect these investments and consider an option for providing solutions when technology goes down. The last thing dad wants is to have his life interrupted or be out of touch because of a technology issue.”

More than 80 percent of families are planning to spend up to $250 on dear old dad. When purchasing Father’s Day gifts this year, families should add product protection to their dad’s technology devices to make sure he can get his favorite gadget working again or receive a quick replacement of a mobile device as soon as possible if there is a problem.

“As the technology dads love and depend on becomes more complex, even basic tasks like setting up a new cellphone can be daunting. Asurion’s Premier Support Solutions is available through mobile carriers and offers dads a one-stop-shop for all things tech- from trouble shooting the new device set up to syncing his gift with his other tech gadgets,” said Sue Nokes, senior vice president of customer solutions, Asurion.
