How to delete and stop iPhone calendar spam
Are you sick of unwanted events cluttering your iPhone® device’s Calendar app? These spam events can be annoying, interrupting your real plans and flooding you with unwanted notifications. Don't worry. Verizon Security Advisor experts are here to help you figure out how to get rid of that bothersome iPhone calendar spam for good.
Why do I get iPhone calendar spam?
iPhone calendar spam usually creeps in when you accidentally interact with malicious ads, visit suspicious websites, or unknowingly subscribe to spammy calendar events. This can happen more easily than you think – a simple tap on a pop-up can lead to unwanted events appearing in your calendar.
Why you shouldn't click on iPhone calendar spam events
When a spam event pops up in your calendar, it’s important not to click on any links within it. Clicking those links tells spammers that your email is active, potentially leading to even more spam. Instead, report the spam event through iCloud. Here’s how:
- Visit icloud.com and open the Calendar app.
- Open the event you want to report.
- Click Report Junk.
- Click OK, and the event will be deleted from your calendar on all devices using the same Apple ID.
How to remove iPhone calendar spam
The steps to remove spam calendar events can vary slightly depending on your iOS version. Here’s how to do it based on your operating system:
Check your iOS version
- Go to Settings > General.
- Tap About and look for Software Version.
For iOS 14.6 or later
- Open the Calendar app.
- Tap the unwanted calendar event.
- Tap Unsubscribe from this Calendar at the bottom of the screen.
- Confirm by tapping Unsubscribe.
For earlier versions of iOS
- Open the Calendar app.
- Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
- Locate the calendar you don't recognize.
- Tap the More Info button next to it.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Calendar.
If the spam calendar still exists, try these additional steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Calendar (or Passwords & Accounts for iOS 13) and then Accounts.
- Tap Subscribed Calendars.
- Find the suspicious calendar and tap it.
- Tap Delete Account to permanently remove it.
