Turn offFind My™ Apple Device

You need to turn off Find My iPhone when you are having Asurion repair or replace it. Turning off Find My iPhone is a requirement of your insurance program and the claim process, and we may charge you a substantial fee if you don’t turn it off. Follow the steps in this article to verify that it’s turned off before sending us your iPhone for repair or replacement. If your iPhone is unusable or you don’t have it with you, you must turn this feature off at iCloud.com.

If you opted in for Stolen Device Protection under iOS 17.3 or newer, Apple may initiate a Security Delay, preventing immediate security changes on your device when you're in an unfamiliar location. This delay lasts 1-hour but you can still use your phone. You'll receive a notification from Apple when the delay ends, and you will have a short window to make changes before it starts again. Turning off your device and then removing it from the iCloud.com will also disable Find My. For more information on Stolen Device Protection, visit Apple Support.

If the Find My option is greyed out in your settings, it’s usually due to an iCloud, Location Services, or Screen Time setting.

Try these quick fixes:

• Accept iCloud Terms & Conditions
 Go to Settings > [Your Name] and accept any pending iCloud Terms.

• Turn On “Share My Location”
 Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and make sure Share My Location is turned ON.

• Check Screen Time Restrictions
 Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions

• Under Passcode & Face ID, Accounts, and Location Services, make sure all are Allowed

• Under Location Services > Find My iPhone, set to Allow changes

Find My iPhone is a native feature of your Apple iPhone and Apple iCloud account. When it’s turned on, it allows you to locate your iPhone on a map, at any time, from a computer or another Apple device. Normally it’s a good idea to keep Find My iPhone turned on—it protects your data and helps you retrieve your phone if it’s ever lost or stolen. But you need to turn it off when Asurion is repairing or replacing your iPhone.

Option 1: Reset on Your iPhone or iPad

• Go to Settings

• Tap your name at the top (Apple ID)

• Tap Sign-In & Security (or Password & Security on older iOS versions)

• Tap Change Password

• Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password using your device passcode Note: You must be signed in with your Apple ID and have your device passcode to use this method.



Option 2: Reset Using iforgot.apple.com

• Go to iforgot.apple.com

• Enter your Apple ID (email address)

• Follow the prompts to reset your password

• You may be asked to answer security questions, receive a code via trusted device, or use two-factor authentication Tip: Make sure you have access to the recovery email, trusted phone number, or device associated with your Apple ID.
