How to fix common Windows 11 issues

You’ve installed Windows 11™, and things mostly run smoothly—until something doesn’t. Maybe your apps are crashing, your computer freezes at random, or you can’t get your printer to connect. If that sounds familiar, don’t worry. Most problems can be solved with a few simple tweaks.

Asurion Experts help people troubleshoot issues like these every day. Whether it’s performance problems, update errors, or audio issues, we’ve got tips to get your system back on track. Here’s how to fix common Windows 11 issues.

Restart your PC

Sometimes the simplest fix is the most effective. If your system feels slow, glitchy, or unresponsive, restart your computer before trying anything else.

  1. Click the Start menu.
  2. Select the Power icon.
  3. Choose Restart.

Check for Windows updates

Many common problems stem from outdated software.

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates.
  3. Install any available updates, then restart your computer.

Fix freezing and slow performance

Is your PC running Windows 11 moving at a snail’s pace? Several factors can lead to slow performance such as too many apps running in the background, outdated drivers, or not enough storage.

If your Windows 11 PC is freezing or dragging, try these steps:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Sort by CPU or Memory to find apps using the most resources.
  3. Right-click and select End task on any that aren’t needed.

Fix apps that won’t open

If a Windows 11 app keeps crashing or won’t start:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Find the app and click the three dots > Advanced options.
  3. Try Repair, or Reset if needed.

Troubleshoot sound problems

No sound or glitchy audio in Windows 11? Try these steps:

  • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar.
  • Choose Troubleshoot sound problems.
  • Follow the prompts to detect and fix audio issues.

Also, make sure your default speaker or headphones are selected under Settings > System > Sound.

Reconnect a printer

If your printer won’t connect:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your printer, then click Remove device.
  3. Reconnect it by clicking Add device.

Use System Restore

If something’s gone seriously wrong, a restore point can take your system back to a working state.

  1. Search Create a restore point in the Start menu.
  2. Open System Protection, then click System Restore.
  3. Choose a point before the issue started and follow the steps.
