Your Echo Show setup will finish once it confirms connection.
How to customize your Echo settings
Once your Echo Dot or Echo Show is connected, take a few minutes to adjust your settings. This is where you make Alexa feel personal instead of generic.
Open the Alexa app, then:
- Tap Devices to manage each Echo individually.
- Select your Echo to change its name or assign it to a room.
- Adjust Sound settings to change volume, bass, or treble.
- Set your Preferred music service under Music & Podcasts.
- Customize Voice Responses and turn Brief Mode on or off.
- Manage Privacy settings, including voice recordings.
On Echo Show, you can also swipe down from the top of the screen to adjust:
- Brightness
- Display theme
- Home screen content
- Camera and microphone controls
Taking time to customize these settings improves voice recognition, music playback, and overall Alexa performance.
What if your Echo won’t connect?
If setup fails, it’s usually one of these:
- Weak Wi-Fi signal
- Incorrect password
- Router compatibility issues
Try:
- Moving your Echo closer to your router
- Restarting your router
- Restarting the Alexa app
- Resetting the Echo (hold the Action button for 15–20 seconds)
If the light ring turns blue but never connects, it’s almost always a network issue.
How to reset an Amazon Echo
If you need to start over:
- Press and hold the Action button for about 20 seconds.
- Wait until the light turns orange again.
- Reopen the Alexa app and repeat setup.
Different Echo models may vary slightly, but most follow this same process.
