Setting up a Blink™ camera can be a major life convenience, whether you're looking to enhance your home security, check in on your pets while at work, or just make sure your packages don't walk away.

Asurion tech care is available for all your family's electronics, from gaming consoles to smart devices—including smart cameras. Here’s how you can make Blink camera setup a breeze.

What tools do you need to set up a Blink camera?

From monitoring your home through live video feeds to sending alerts to your phone, a Blink smart camera can help streamline how you handle your home’s security.

Before you get started, make sure you have the necessary tools on hand. You'll need your Blink camera, its mounting kit, and your AA batteries or power adapters. A smartphone is also essential for connecting the camera to the Blink app.

How to set up a Blink camera

Let's get into the specifics of configuring your Blink camera with a few straightforward steps:

1. Create a Blink account

Connecting to the Blink Home Monitor app is your first step toward a fully functional home security system. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Download the Blink Home Monitor app from the Google Play® Store or the Apple® App Store®. Then, open the Blink App and tap Create Account at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select your country, and tap Next. Confirm your region, and tap OK.
  3. Enter your email address, and tap Next. Then, create a password, and tap Create Account.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the authentication process. When the phone verification step is complete, you can link your new Blink account to your Amazon™ account by tapping Link Accounts. If you prefer not to link your account at this time, select Skip to proceed to the Home screen without linking your accounts.

Linking is optional for basic setup, but it’s required if you want to use Blink Subscription Plans for cloud storage, extended live view, person detection, and video history. Most users choose to link accounts during setup.

2. Set up your Blink camera

Once you've unpacked everything and installed the app, it's time to set up your Blink camera. Before starting, confirm which camera model you have.

  • Battery-powered models (like Blink Outdoor and Indoor) usually require a Sync Module.
  • Plug-in models (like Blink Mini) connect directly to Wi-Fi and do not require a Sync Module.

If your camera uses a Sync Module

  1. Open the Blink app and tap the + icon.
  2. Select Sync Module.
  3. Scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually.
  4. Create a new system name when prompted.
  5. Plug in the Sync Module.

Wait for the LED pattern: blinking blue and solid green. If you don’t see it, press and hold the Reset button for about 5 seconds until the blue light flashes.

  1. Tap Discover Device in the app.
  2. Connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network named BLINK-xxxx (the numbers match your module).
  3. Enter your home Wi-Fi password when prompted.

Once connected, tap Done. You can now add your cameras.

Adding your Blink camera

  1. In the Blink app, tap the + icon again.
  2. Select your camera model.
  3. Scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually.
  4. Insert the batteries (for battery-powered models).
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setup.

After pairing, you can adjust the camera name, motion detection, notification settings and video quality.

3. Mount your Blink camera

The final step in your Blink camera installation is putting it in the perfect spot.

  1. If you haven’t already, insert the batteries or connect the power adapter to turn on your Blink camera and follow the setup steps from the previous section.
  2. Choose the right mount for the best viewing angle: Connect the camera directly to the volcano mount for vertical surfaces like walls or posts, or use the right-angle adapter for horizontal surfaces like ceilings or shelves.
  3. With the appropriate mount attached, pick a spot that gives you a clear view of the area you want to monitor. You’ll want to avoid areas with excessive backlighting and obstructions, like furniture or trees, that could make the foreground appear too dark or block the camera’s view.
  4. Using the screws provided in the mounting kit, secure the camera's mount to your chosen spot. For Blink outdoor camera installation, ensure the location is sheltered from direct rain and extreme temperatures.
  5. Slide your Blink camera onto the mount, and adjust it to cover the desired area.

After mounting your camera, open Live View in the Blink app to check the field of view. If adjustments are needed, gently tilt and rotate the camera by hand to fine-tune the viewing angle.
