How to use the new Calendar features in iOS 18

Your iPhone® just got better at keeping your schedule in check, thanks to the new Calendar features in iOS® 18. Whether you’re juggling meetings, school pickups, or weekend plans, the latest update gives you smarter tools to manage your time. You’ll see a cleaner design, smarter event suggestions, and even built-in Reminders—all in one place.

At Asurion, we help you get the most out of the tech you rely on every day. Here’s what’s new in the Calendar app and how to use it.

What’s new in Calendar for iOS 18

Apple has added a handful of helpful updates to the Calendar app in iOS 18. Here’s what to look for:

  • Reminders integration. You can now view and complete scheduled Reminders directly from the Calendar app.
  • Smarter suggestions. When you create a new event, Calendar suggests names, locations, and people based on your past activity.
  • Improved views. The updated timeline and Month views make it easier to see your day—or your whole month—at a glance.
  • More helpful Siri®. You can now create recurring or detailed events by simply asking Siri.

These updates work automatically when you update to iOS 18—there’s nothing new to download.

How to see Reminders in your Calendar

Reminders now show up right in your Calendar, so you can manage your to-do list and events in one spot.

  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. Tap Day or List view.
  3. Look for tasks with checkboxes—those are scheduled Reminders.
  4. Tap a Reminder to view or complete it.
  5. To hide Reminders, tap Calendars at the bottom and uncheck Scheduled Reminders.

If you want to edit a Reminder, just tap it, then tap Edit to change the time, title, or list. Learn more in our guide on how to use Apple Reminders.

How to add a new event in Calendar

iOS 18 makes it faster to create events with suggested titles, locations, and invitees.

  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. Tap the + button in the top-right corner.
  3. Start typing—Calendar will show smart suggestions as you go.
  4. Enter your event’s time, location, and any guests.
  5. Tap Add to save.

To make an event repeat, scroll to Repeat and choose how often you want it to happen—daily, weekly, or custom. You can also share your calendar if you want others to see or edit events.

How to use the new timeline and Month views

iOS 18 improves how your schedule is displayed, so it’s easier to see everything you’ve planned.

  • In Day view, you’ll now see your events and Reminders side by side in a clear timeline.
  • In Month view, you get a better snapshot of your full month, with color-coded dots for events and tasks.

To switch views, open the Calendar app and tap the icons at the top of the screen.

How to use Siri to schedule events

Siri can now create more detailed events—including recurring ones—just by hearing your voice.

  1. Activate Siri by saying, “Hey Siri” or holding the Side button.
  2. Say something like, “Add doctor’s appointment next Tuesday at 9 AM.”
  3. Siri will confirm the event and add it to your calendar.
  4. To make it repeat, say, “every month” or “every Monday,” and Siri will schedule it accordingly.

This feature works with iCloud calendars and any calendar you’ve synced to your iPhone.

What to do if events aren’t syncing

If your Calendar isn’t updating across your devices, try these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
  2. Tap Show All, then make sure Calendars is turned on.
  3. Check that your device’s date and time are set correctly.
  4. Visit Apple’s System Status page to make sure iCloud is working.
  5. If needed, sign out of iCloud and sign back in.
