You open the Twitch™ app on Fire TV, get a loading screen or a quick flash of the logo, and then...nothing useful happens.

Force stop Twitch and clear its cache

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Twitch and choose Force Stop. Open Twitch again.

If it still hangs or kicks you back out, return to the same menu and select Clear Cache. Cache is temporary app data, so this is a much smaller move than clearing the app’s data or reinstalling it.

Restart your Fire TV

If Twitch still won’t open, restart Fire TV from Settings > My Fire TV > Restart or Device & Software > Restart, depending on the model. You can also unplug it from power for about a minute and reconnect it.

Then try Twitch before changing anything else. If it opens normally after the restart, leave the rest of the settings alone.

See whether Twitch works somewhere else

Open Twitch on a phone, computer, or another streaming device using the same account. If Twitch fails there too, the Fire TV app may not be the real problem. Check Twitch’s service and account status before repeatedly reinstalling the app.

Update Fire TV and the Twitch app

Check Fire TV software under Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates or Device & Software > About > Check for Updates. Then check the Amazon Appstore for a Twitch update. App and Fire OS updates can fix compatibility problems that show up as a frozen launch screen, unexpected closing, or an app that suddenly stops opening after working normally.

Clear app data or reinstall Twitch

When Twitch is still the only app affected, go back to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Twitch and select Clear Data. This resets the app and signs you out, so have the Twitch login ready. Try the app again before uninstalling it.

If it still won’t load, uninstall Twitch, restart Fire TV, then download the app again from the Amazon Appstore. A fresh install replaces the app files without wiping the rest of Fire TV.

Don’t factory reset Fire TV for one broken app

If every other app works and Twitch is the lone holdout, a factory reset is far more disruption than the symptom calls for. It removes apps, accounts, and Fire TV settings, while a Twitch-side bug or app compatibility problem can still be there afterward.
