How to fix my Fire TV Stick

Wondering why your Fire Stick isn’t turning on? Here are some easy troubleshooting steps to try:

Make sure your TV is turned on

Some TV models turn on automatically when you turn on your Fire Stick. But some TV models need to be turned on with their own remote control so make sure your TV is on, then try pushing the Power button on your Fire Stick.

Restart your Fire Stick

Press Select and Play on your Fire Stick for approximately 10 seconds to restart it. This easy fix may get your Fire Stick working again.

Check the HDMI input on your TV

Check that your Fire Stick is correctly plugged into an HDMI port on your TV. A loose connection could cause your device not to turn on. Also, try unplugging, and then plugging your Fire Stick into a different HDMI port on your TV to see if that solves the problem.

Use a direct power source

If you plugged your Fire Stick into your TV’s USB port, try switching to the power adapter that came with your device and plugging it directly into a wall outlet.

Wait 10 minutes

If you’ve pushed the Power button but your Fire Stick still isn’t turning on, wait for 5-10 minutes. In some cases, your streaming stick might need more time to start, especially if it’s receiving updates.

Check the batteries

Check the batteries in your Fire Stick remote. If they’re out of juice, put in fresh batteries for an easy fix.

Check your Wi-Fi connection

You need a stable internet connection for your Fire Stick to work. Check the Wi-Fi network you’re using for your device, then try to connect to the same network with your smartphone to see if it’s working. If your phone gets on Wi-Fi, you’ll need to do more troubleshooting to find the problem.

Open a different app

The issue could be with an app rather than the Fire Stick itself. If you’re using YouTube™, try switching to another app like Disney+®. If your Fire Stick turns on when you open another app, you’ll know the problem is with the first app you tried to open.

Factory reset your Fire Stick

Still can’t get your Fire Stick to turn on? You can factory reset your device but only as a last resort as you’ll lose any data like settings or passwords.

  1. On your Fire Stick remote, press and hold the Back button and the right side of the navigation circle at the same time for about 10 seconds.
  2. On your TV screen, select continue or cancel the factory reset. If you don’t choose, the device automatically resets after a few seconds.
  3. Keep your device plugged in and wait a few minutes for the reset to finish.
  4. You’ll need to re-pair your device with your remote once it's returned to factory settings.
