Ways to fix an eero guest network that won’t connect
⚡ Fast fix
- Guest Wi-Fi on? Check that it’s enabled and saved in the eero app.
- Can they join but not cast? Guest devices are intentionally isolated.
- Main network down too? Fix the internet connection before guest Wi-Fi.
- Still can’t get guests online? Get 24/7 expert support for the tech you rely on.
The Wi-Fi password gets shared, the guest taps Join, and then everyone watches the spinning connection icon together. Not exactly the warm welcome anyone had planned.
Asurion Experts have the know-how to help with home Wi-Fi setups and the little settings that can make them feel anything but simple. With an eero® guest network, it helps to separate a connection problem from something the guest network is intentionally designed not to do.
A guest network that can’t see the printer may be working perfectly
eero keeps its guest network separate from the main network for privacy. Devices connected as guests can use the internet, but they can’t communicate with devices on the main network—or even with other devices on the guest network.
So if a guest can browse the web but can’t cast to the living-room speaker, print to a Wi-Fi printer, or reach a smart-home device, there may be nothing to fix. That isolation is part of how the guest network works.
If guests can’t get online at all, test the main network
Connect a phone or laptop to the regular eero Wi-Fi and open a webpage.
- If the main network is offline too, leave the guest settings alone for now. The internet connection, gateway eero, modem, or service provider needs attention first.
- If the main network works normally and only the guest network fails, keep the troubleshooting inside the eero app.
Refresh the guest Wi-Fi settings
Open the eero app and:
- Go to Settings > Guest Wi-Fi Network.
- Make sure Enable guest network is turned on.
- Confirm the guest network has a different name from the main network.
- Check or change the guest password.
- Tap Save.
On the guest’s phone or tablet, forget the old guest network if it’s already saved, then join again using the current password. Use a different password from the main Wi-Fi network. You can also share the credentials directly from the app or let a guest scan the network QR code instead of typing a long password across the room.
Changed the guest password recently?
A phone that remembers the old password may keep trying it automatically without making the problem obvious.
Forget the guest network on that device, reconnect from scratch, and enter the new password. If one phone joins normally and another doesn’t, that tells you the eero guest network itself is working—the stubborn device is where we’d stay focused.
If the eero app itself can’t find the network you’re trying to manage, our article on getting the eero app connected to your network again covers app, account, Bluetooth, and gateway checks.
eero Built-in won’t extend guest Wi-Fi
Compatible Echo devices can extend the main eero network through eero Built-in, but that extension does not carry the guest network.
That can create a strange pattern: the regular Wi-Fi works well in a distant room because a nearby Echo is extending it, while the guest network is weak or disappears in the same spot. If that’s what you’re seeing, test the guest connection closer to a physical eero rather than the Echo.
Our guide to setting up an eero Wi-Fi extender can help if the guest network simply needs better coverage from the mesh itself.
No need to factory reset the whole network
A broken guest connection rarely calls for wiping an established eero setup. Confirm the main network works, refresh the guest settings, reconnect with the current credentials, and test closer to an eero first. A factory reset would turn a small guest Wi-Fi problem into a full network setup job.

FAQ
How do I turn on the eero guest network?
Open the eero app, go to Settings > Guest Wi-Fi Network, turn on Enable guest network, set the name and password, then tap Save.
Why can’t a guest device see my printer or smart speaker?
That’s expected. eero isolates guest devices from the main network and from one another.
How do I reset my eero guest Wi-Fi password?
Open Settings > Guest Wi-Fi Network, enter a new password, and save it. Guests will need to reconnect using the new credentials.
Why does regular eero Wi-Fi work but the guest network is weak?
If eero Built-in is extending the main network through a compatible Echo, remember that it does not extend the guest network.
Should I reset eero because the guest network won’t work?
Probably not. Check the main internet connection, guest settings, saved password, and coverage first.
