Here’s how you can get your HP Envy up and running in no time.

How to turn on HP Envy laptop

Starting your HP Envy laptop is simple and can be done in three steps:

  1. Locate the power button: It’s typically situated on the left side of the machine under a lid. Other models might have the power button on either back corners or somewhere just above the keyboard.
  2. Press the power button: Next, open the lid. Then, press the power button gently but firmly. Unless there's something seriously wrong, your Envy should power up right away. As proof, you’ll see the white LED light around the power button power on, followed by the HP logo showing on the screen.
  3. Give the operating system a moment to load: Once the HP logo disappears, the operating system will begin loading immediately. Depending on your notebook’s configuration and the software it’s running on, it might take a little longer to boot.

To turn your HP Envy laptop on without the power button, try the key combination of Fn + Esc or Fn + Power and see if it works. It’s akin to pressing the actual button on some models.

What if my HP Envy won’t turn on?

If your Envy fails to turn on after pressing the power button, there’s no reason to panic. Try these troubleshooting hacks instead:

  • Check to confirm if the computer is connected to a power outlet. If the battery is drained, leave it for a few minutes before attempting to power up again. If it still won't power on, it may be an issue with the battery.
  • Make sure the adapter is connected firmly and securely as needed.
  • Perform a hard reset.

How to execute a hard reset on HP Envy

  • Unplug the power adapter from the laptop. This cuts off any power supply to the notebook.
  • Press the power button down for no less than 15 seconds. This empties any remaining power from the internal components.
  • Wait for at least 10 seconds before reconnecting the power cable to your machine.
  • Press the power button on your HP Envy.

Common causes of HP Envy power issues

Your HP not turning on could be due to either a hardware or power supply issue. Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the most common reasons:

  • The battery has degraded and consequently died due to old age.
  • The Envy charging cable, adapter, or both are faulty.
  • Your HP Envy is operating for long stretches of time and might be overheating
  • The RAM, motherboard, or hard drive is defective.

FAQ

Where is the power button on the HP Envy desktop?

If yours is a traditional tower model, the power button is most likely located on the front panel of the case. Search for it near the USB ports, at the top or upper-right corner.

If you own an HP® Envy All-in-One Desktop, you’ll find its power button at the back of the monitor. If not, it’s on the bottom edge or side of the screen bezel.

Is yours an HP® Envy All-in-One 34 Series (Curved Display)? You’ll find its power button on the right-hand side of the lower bezel. If it isn’t there, it’s likely somewhere along the edge of the monitor.

Why won’t my HP Envy laptop turn on?

It’s likely down to three things: a battery issue, a hardware defect, or a power supply hiccup. If the battery is the culprit, it’s best to swap it out for a new one. A hardware issue, such as a RAM or motherboard malfunction, might require a more intricate fix. Only an HP repair expert can determine for sure if your HP Envy needs to be repaired

More often than not, an HP Envy laptop won’t turn on due to a simple power supply issue. Ensure both the charging cable and power adapter are plugged in correctly.
