Asurion Helps Teach For America Bring Top Notch Summer Education to Nashville

Asurion is the Presenting Sponsor of the Teach For America Summer Academies, a summer program that will provide 5 weeks of high-quality education to 1,000 Nashville students, plus training opportunities for 115 new Teach For America teachers stationed in Nashville.

“Teach For America champions Asurion’s corporate passion for children and education. Our employees have embraced the value of the program across the board and collectively have volunteered over 900 hours of tutoring in Teach For America classrooms,” said Tony Detter, chairman of Asurion’s Compassion Forward philanthropic efforts and senior vice president of global products. “Asurion is proud of the difference Teach For America is making in the lives of students around the country, and we are thrilled to support the organization in Nashville as the Presenting Sponsor of the Summer Academies.”

Teach For America is a non-profit organization that recruits professionals and top college graduates to commit to teach in high-need classrooms and become lifelong advocates in the movement for educational equity. The Summer Academies program will be staffed by veteran Metro Nashville School educators, along with Teach For America corps members training to begin teaching in local classrooms in the fall.

“Asurion has been a long-time supporter of Teach For America and we are proud to partner with them for the inaugural Summer Academies in Nashville, bringing high quality summer learning to middle Tennessee students,” said Shani Jackson Dowell, executive director of Teach For America- Greater Nashville. “At its core, Asurion values education and has provided critical resources to enhance the future of our students. We are grateful for their support of Teach For America and the impact they are having on students and teachers.”

The Summer Academies are open to all Metro Nashville students entering grades one to five, or eight to 12.
