94% of people own a microwave, and 55% say it’s the one appliance they could not live without*. We’ve rounded up a few tips to help you use your favorite device more efficiently. Check out these 4 microwave hacks below:
1. Avoid soggy pizza
Cover your food (top and bottom) with a dry paper towel before popping it in the microwave. The paper towel will absorb the moisture that naturally escapes when food is reheating and traps it in the towel instead of being reabsorbed, leaving you with soggy pizza.
2. Dry your own herbs
Instead of throwing away extra fresh herbs or letting them go bad, dry them in your microwave and save for later. Place fresh herbs on a paper towel and microwave for 2-4 minutes. Crumble the herbs and store in an airtight container for fresh-dried herbs all year long.
3. Revive stale bread
Nobody likes a stale sandwich. Revitalize your loaf by wrapping bread slices in a damp towel and microwaving for 10 seconds at a time. Check the bread repeatedly until it’s soft again. Voilà!
4. Keep it clean
With all this use, you’re going to want to make sure your microwave stays clean. Heat 2 cups of water in a glass bowl with 1-2 teaspoons of white vinegar for 5 minutes. The steam helps loosen up any baked on grim in the microwave while the vinegar disinfects.
