You’ve done everything right. You ensured your child was mature enough before giving him a phone. You established rules, set boundaries and obtained signed device contracts. You even made a point to continually engage with your child to keep up to date with the latest apps and games on his device.
It was all going so well, until it wasn’t.
Whether it was a cellphone snuck into his bedroom at night, a texting marathon that disregarded agreed upon limits or the fact that your child has been partaking in some less than stellar behavior online, it was bound to happen, and now it’s important to figure out how to handle it appropriately.
First, take a deep breath. It’s a lofty goal to think any child will be 100% compliant to the rules and boundaries you established.
