Downloading Total Equipment Protection App Wins Customer $10,000

Sprint and Asurion also make donation to DoSomething.org for every app rating

Sprint, major US wireless service provider, and Asurion, global leader in technology protection services, yesterday awarded a $10,000 grand prize in the Protect To Win Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes, sponsored by Asurion and promoted jointly with Sprint, ran August 6 through November 3 with the goal of raising awareness among Sprint customers about the Total Equipment Protection app, which is included at no additional charge with Total Equipment Protection (TEP) coverage. TEP offers customers complete protection by insuring their device against loss, theft, liquid or physical damage and protecting against mechanical or electrical failures due to defect or normal wear and tear. The Total Equipment Protection App extends these benefits to include features that allow customers to locate and lock their phone in the event of loss or theft and to safeguard any personal information housed on their device. The app will also sound an alarm, even in silent mode, allowing customers to find a misplaced device and enables customers to erase or restore contacts in the event the device is not recovered.

Additionally, customers who have the Total Equipment Protection app were encouraged to rate the app. For every user rating in the GooglePlay or Blackberry World App markets during the sweepstakes, Asurion donated money to DoSomething.org, a charity that has worked with Sprint in the past and is devoted to empowering teens to change their communities through service and involvement. Asurion will be donating a total of $6,900 to DoSomething.org.

Throughout the fourteen week sweepstakes, ten winners were awarded prizes each day, totaling $9,000 by the end of the sweepstakes. The grand prize winner, Karla Pudiwitr-Lyles, was awarded a $10,000 check at her local Sprint store in St. Peters, Mo. yesterday. Karla found out about the sweepstakes from a SprintZone alert on her device and was automatically entered in the sweepstakes by downloading and registering the app.

“I saw the contest on Sprint Zone” said Karla, “so I thought well I will try it since I’ve got protection (TEP) on my phone. I got an email Friday and I called my mom right away and said I don’t know if this is real.” She contacted the Sprint store manager in Saint Peters, Corey Knight, to verify that she actually won.

“We are happy to work with Sprint and are very pleased with the success of the Protect To Win Sweepstakes. We were able to donate to a deserving charity, while also rewarding Total Equipment Protection customers through daily prizes and ultimately our $10,000 grand prize award.” said Chuck Naylor, Vice President and General Manager from Asurion, who was on-hand for the check presentation to Karla.
