Laptop not charging when plugged in?
Most laptop batteries last up to 4 hours on a single charge, but after a few years, they can start to give out—and stop charging all together. Don't worry—if your laptop no longer holds a charge, there are some simple solutions:
- Turn off your laptop’s power, and wait 30 minutes before you turn it back on. Then connect the charging cable, and see if the laptop gets some juice.
- Check your plug, battery, charger, and connector, and ensure they are working. You may also want to test the wall outlet or surge protector.
- Inspect your charging ports for dust or debris, then use a cotton swab or can of compressed air to clean them out. Be sure to hold the can upright.
- See if your laptop is overheating, and if it is, take a break from using it until the battery cools down. It could be too hot and no longer functioning normally.
