Illustration of factory reset Apple Vision Pro

When your Apple® Vision Pro starts acting up, whether it's running slower than usual or experiencing software glitches, a factory reset might be the best course of action to get everything back on track.

A factory reset can sound daunting, but our tech experts at uBreakiFix® by Asurion have you covered. This guide will walk you through why and how to safely reset your Apple Vision Pro, ensuring you preserve all your important information and restore the device's performance to its original state.

Why would you factory reset your Apple Vision Pro?

A factory reset can resolve persistent software issues, clear out malware, or clean up your system to enhance performance if it becomes cluttered with apps and files over time. It's also a crucial step if you plan to sell or give away your device, as it removes all personal data, ensuring your privacy.

How to factory reset your Apple Vision Pro

A Vision Pro reset is simple; however, there are a few things you’ll want to do to make sure you complete it correctly without losing your precious data in the process. Let's go over how to back up your Vision Pro, do a factory reset, and restore your data.

Backing up your Vision Pro data

Before proceeding with the reset, backing up all your important files, photos, and app data is vital. The quickest and easiest way to back up your Vision Pro data is to use iCloud, the way you would back up your other Apple devices.

  1. On your Vision Pro, go to Settings.
  2. Tap [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
  3. Turn on iCloud Backup. Turning this on will ensure it regularly backs up to iCloud going forward. To perform a manual backup, tap Back Up Now.

Performing the factory reset

After you complete your backup, you can start factory resetting your Apple Vision Pro. The process will likely require you to enter your Apple ID password, so you’ll want to have that information on hand.

  1. On your Vision Pro, go to Settings.
  2. Tap General > Transfer or Reset Apple Vision Pro.
  3. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. If asked, enter your device passcode or Apple ID password. Then confirm the factory reset. It might take a few minutes to reset your device.

Restoring your Vision Pro data

Once your Vision Pro completes its factory reset, you can either power it off—if you intend to sell it or give it to someone—or you can complete the device setup again. You have two ways to restore your Vision Pro:

  1. You can tap Set Up Manually, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. You can use an iPhone® or iPad® with iOS® 17, iPadOS® 17, or later, to use Quick Start to set up your new Apple Vision Pro automatically. To use it, all you have to do is bring those two devices close together and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Both allow you to restore your data and content using your iCloud backup.
